Third Army begins Historic Move to Sumter’s Shaw Air Force Base image

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. - Third Army Soldiers took the next big step in its move to Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. with the arrival of 22 advanced party Soldiers, July 1.
The Soldiers will be working out of the newly finished headquarters and headquarters building until construction on the new Patton Hall is complete.

The group includes administration professionals, training noncommissioned officers and information specialists who will in-process incoming Third Army Soldiers who go to Fort McPherson, Ga., for temporary duty or to forward operations in Kuwait.

“This is an exciting time in Third Army’s history,” said Col. Robert Young, chief of staff for strategic relocation. “Everyone in the Shaw/Sumter community has been so welcoming.  When they see the Third Army patch they ask what they can do to help us. Third Army has moved several times throughout its history. The arrival of the advanced party marks the beginning of a new beginning. We are excited to be here.”
